Acupuncture is a technique in which sterilized needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points along energetic meridians on the body. Acupuncture has been practiced for more than 2000 years and is used to treat both acute and chronic disorders. Acupuncture resolves symptoms by affecting the body's internal organs, immune and hormonal systems.
Patients typically experience a mild sensation with the insertion of the very fine gauge needles. Patients feel warming, mild tingling, or pressure, but rarely do they feel pain, and any sensations are brief and easily tolerated. Most patients look forward to the experience of each treatment. Most find the experience relaxing and many fall asleep.
The Princeton Medical Acupuncture Center by Jennifer Luan, MD seeks to balance the body and mind through gentle activation of the energy channels in the body with acupuncture treatment. By stimulating the body with needles, the patient's own healing mechanisms are activated, which leads to relief of pain, improved mood and better immunity.
Aseptic techniques and surgical gloves are always employed.
